Joe Harris to resign from Cirencester Town Council

Councillor Joe Harris has announced his intention to resign from Cirencester Town Council effective from September 1st.

“It has been one of the biggest honours of my life serving on Cirencester Town Council since 2011 including two years leading the Council as Mayor.

“I’m particularly proud of delivering a state of the art CCTV system for the Town, securing the development of the Market Place, overseeing the completion of Cirencester’s skate park and turning the Town Council into a more proactive organisation.

“I’m also so proud of what the Liberal Democrats have achieved for Cirencester and I know our team at the Town Council will continue this excellent work delivering quality and cost effective services.”

“I’ve taken this decision to focus on my roles as the Leader of the Liberal Democrat group at Cotswold District Council and as Cirencester’s County Councillor.

“We face huge challenges in the coming months including the prospect of our Minor Injuries Unit at Cirencester Hospital Closing down, the final stages of the local plan process that will dramatically change the face of Cirencester and a funding crisis at Shire Hall, I feel I need to put all of my energy into addressing these issues and mustn’t spread myself too thinly.”
