Cirencester County Councillor Joe Harris has called on the local NHS Trust to cancel parking fines for patients and visitors who have been caught out after recent changes to the way parking is managed at Cirencester Hospital.
Hundreds of penalty fines have been issued since the hospital switched to a number plate recognition system a few months ago.
Cllr Harris said: “Lots of residents have contacted me because they’ve been fined after not realising the hospital had changed the way they manage parking on site. I want the local NHS to give visitors a grace period and cancel parking fines issued since the changes were introduced.”
“I still think the signage at Cirencester hospital could be improved to make visitors more aware of the new system, visiting a friend or loved one in hospital can be an unpleasant experience and slapping someone with a penalty charges doesn’t seem fair to me. “
“I’ll be writing to the NHS trust this week to try and get this fixed.”
