As many of you will know the Conservative leadership of Gloucestershire County Council signalled to me in late 2017 that they would begin an on-street parking review in Cirencester to start last summer. The aim of this review is to help tackle some of the challenges that you, as residents, face trying to park near your home.
This came after years of lobbying by myself and local residents and we were delighted when this news was announced.
Unfortunately, at a meeting I attended with local residents and the head of parking at the County Council they appear to have reneged on this commitment giving us no date for when a review will begin.
They justify this decision by claiming they want to assess what the final impact of the Market Place redevelopment scheme has, once the conclusions of the safety audit are implemented and also what the proposed changes to Cricklade Street will have on parking. This could still take many months, if not years.
I don’t believe that this is excuse is good enough and I still think that a review should proceed without delay. The changes in the Town Centre may have a minor impact to on-street parking but the fundamental issues remain the same.
I will continue to voice our concerns about this problem – it can easily be solved by a Council which is committed to listening to the concerns of residents and actually doing something to help. I am committed to getting things done and will continue to press for this urgent review.

Thank you!
